Welcome to the latest "Let’s Hae a Wee Blether Aboot Gambling in Scotland" podcast, brought to you by Fast Forward’s Scottish Gambling Education Hub.
In this two-part episode, we look at the support and treatment available across the country for those struggling with issues related to gambling harms.
To do this, Fran Howard (from Fast Forward) and I spoke with Nadine Ashworth about her own journey from the lows where she felt helpless and unable to stop gambling, right through to today, where she has created her own organisation-Thrivin' Together, who offer support to women experiencing similar challenges from gambling.
This podcast has been split into two parts with the second part concluding Nadine's story, as well as talking to Mark (Gambler's Annonymous) and Peter (Citizen's Advice Bureau, Airdrie) about the support available in Scotland.

In this episode, we look into the fascinating, yet at times, challenging world of Loot Boxes within games. We do this firstly, in the company of Dr Leon Xiao (University of Copenhagen) and Dr Elena Petrovskaya (University of Bristol). Both Leon and Elena work extensively in the area of gaming with a real focus on loot boxes and microtransactions.
In the second part, we chat to Emma Williamson from Wishaw YMCA about their innovative E-sports academy and how online safety and loot boxes have been built into the very heart of this programme.

Welcome to the latest "Let’s Hae a Wee Blether Aboot Gambling in Scotland" podcast, brought to you by Fast Forward’s Scottish Gambling Education Hub.
In this episode, we look at the challenges faced by Claire around her adopted son’s addiction to gaming and some of the gambling style mechanics such as loot boxes. Claire talks about how her son’s interest in gaming quickly turned into an obsession and then into something which consumed his entire life, throughout his childhood and even into his late teens. She talks about the impact that this has had on both her son and also the wider family and how difficult it has been, to find the balance between giving her son his freedom as a young adult, and ensuring that he is safe and aware of the risks arising from excessive gaming. In this episode, you will hear about the ups and downs but also hear how Claire and her family keep a positive perspective on her son’s outlook as he moves into full time employment and how this has impacted upon his gaming.
